Thermomax Evacuated Tube Collectors
Heliocentrix sells and installs Thermomax evacuated tube collectors. Ideal for the cold New England climate, they work nearly as efficiently when the sky is cloudy and temperatures are low as on a warm, sunny day. They can outperform flat plate collectors by a margin of four to one in the winter months.
Inside each round glass Thermomax tube is a specially coated copper absorber fin insulated from the outside temperature by a vacuum. A thin sealed copper tube filled with engineered fluid is bonded to the fin. As the sun heats the fin this liquid vaporizes into a heated gas. Water is heated as it passes over a special chamber at the top of the tube, absorbing heat from the gas as it condenses. This results in an extremely efficient transfer of heat into the water supply.

Hot water is stored in specially designed solar tanks manufactured by Stiebel Eltron.
